Port Authority of Allegheny County - Work Order System

CopperByte is proud to assist the transit industry as it moves into a new era of in-house custom application development. As principal architect of the work order system for the Port Authority of Allegheny County, our Principal Engineer Barry Stahl created standards documents, implemented training programs, and collaborated with Port Authority personnel to design, develop and launch a .NET web-based work-order system. While the system was designed primarily for vehicles, the application is useable in any workorder-capable environment, such as Bus, Rail, Facilities, and IT.

The application is 100% Web-based (accessed from within the browser), thus no installation or distribution is required and there are no versioning hassles. The system employs an N-tiered architecture for low total-cost-of-ownership, and is ADA and Web Standards Compliant.

Work Order System Features:

Provides 4 types of work orders:

Preventative
. Automatically triggered based on type of asset
. PMs can be triggered in 3 ways (by mileage, by time of operations, by time of ownership)
. Overdue PMs can be set to autmatically "shop" the asset

Corrective
. Preset procedures with materials such as "Brake Reline on Nova Series 18"

Road Call
. Quick and easy - to get routes back in service fast

Condition Report
. Allows for many forms of entry by operators, data-entry clerks, scanning, automated, etc.
. Allows foremen/supervisors to manage all aspects of the business

Allows foremen/supervisors to manage all aspects of the business:

Manpower
. Displays worker schedules synchronized with Bid-Bump system
. Designed for future support ofvcall-on/call-off and to interface with payroll systems

Work Schedules
. Automatically recommends work schedules (easily changeable)
. Based on criteria set for each work location and shift
. Designed to aid in moving from unplanned toward planned work environment
. Can help consolidate work (i.e. while this vehicle is already on the lift for PM lets do other workorders on that asset)

Vehicle Availability
. Vehicle Availability for Scheduled Routes
. Displays number of vehicles required vs. available in real-time
. Lists vehicles "shopped" and "shopped long-term"

Materials
. Real time interface to PeopleSoft for materials
. Foremen have 1-point of contact, no need to switch back-and-forth
. Automatically orders parts in Peoplesoft for planned maintenance
. Will adjust scheduling based on required parts availability
. Tracks materials usage for possible future warranty system implementation

History
. Histories follow assets even if moved (i.e. engine moves from bus 1 to bus 2)
. Helps identify failure trends

Failure Analysis
. Maintains Complete Asset Histories
. Designed to help move towards a 0-failures environment

Provides extensible reporting capability:

. Reports run at night to minimize system impact
. Available for viewing on demand
. Sample Reports include:
      Actual Costs by cost-center
      Workorder aging by cost-center
      Vehicle Status by cost-center
      Detailed Asset History Reports
      Materials usage/cost by cost-center
      Material Stock Requests (orders)
      Failures by System/Sub-System

Interfaces with external systems using web services and COM. Although not all of these interfaces are currently in operation, the interface capabilities of the system include:

. Peoplesoft HR
. Bid-Bump system
. Vehicle onboard computers
. External scanners
. Other proprietary in-house systems
